Thursday

Hot hot hot ... that was how it was in the office today when they turned off the air conditioning and pulled part of the ducting out.  It wasn't too bad in the Customer Service area but it was like an airless furnace in the National Office.  It was little use asking when it might be back up and running because before it did it would need to get off the floor and be back up in the ceiling to be running.  We are so lucky to work in air conditioning ... the alternative is just not a nice thought - and we were all a bit more grateful (and appreciative) when it finally kicked back into life!  The other thing we noticed - except for A1 (that would be Ke D as in newspaper) who has had a blocked ear for the better part of a fortnight now) - is how much you don't notice the noise the air conditioning  makes except when it goes off and on.
At least there was the cricket ... or there would have been had it not be rained off ... but just because it has been doesn't mean  you can't talk about it.   I am learning a little more each day ... or trying to.  My question for today ... why do they call the end of play for the day "stumps".  We're still working on that one but in the meantime we have found out that The Ashes trophy allegedly contains the ashes of the ball used in the match that started the traditional series.  I had always thought it was either the bales bails or the stumps themselves - or the bails and the stumps which collector form the "wicket" - but apparently not so.
Mei Wei
Sooz and I met M at Mei Wei (the new dumpling restaurant at The Big House) for dinner last night.  It was the first time we have been there but hopefully it won't be the last. We had a selection of entrees and a noodle and prawn dish for "mains" - all very yummy!  For next time we will need to do three things: make sure I note nown the order correctly; work out how to stagger the order so not all the food comes at once; and make sure we get a bigger table!
Sooz and I still have to make it to M&G - the new coffee shop/bar ... we would have had dessert from there last night if (a) we had left some room for it and (b) had they served ice cream!  As it was we stopped at Macca's in the way home and splurged on a soft serve cone each - still excellent value at 60 cents each!
I will have to remember to say goodbye to the Christmas Tree in the morning before I go to work ... it is scheduled to be demolished (read: taken down) tomorrow as it is 12th Night (I think that terminology is right).  Sooz will do it during the day so it will be all packed away by the time I get home tomorrow ... it will be a later one that usual as I am meeting Jo for coffee after work and have scheduled an appointment with the doctor after that.
