What a nice relaxing start to the day ... the alarms sounded but they were snoozed and then didn't bother us again. Amazingly we did manage to get ourselves up and out of Jannie by 10. We may have been up earlier had we not gone out last night - but I'm really glad we did.

We met the group at Food Fantasy for a later sitting - 7:45 pm - and we were the last ones out. We're used to being the last ones out of the Markets but I think this is the first time we've closed Food Fantasy! Gu took the honour of being the very last out!
It was a lovely evening and there were some lovely photographs at the end of it ... thanks to Az and Sooz and that kind stranger who took a pic of us all in front of the massive mural in the hotel Lobby. And yes, Sooz did have on her prawn-eating shirt for the seafood buffet - and we even managed to get a photo of Sooz and a prawn to show just what a good colour match they are. Is there a colour called "prawn" or is it more like a "salmon"?
There was no seafood in sight this morning when we took ourselves to Catalina's for a late breakfast ... I thought at one point there they were going to offer us the lunch menu! There was a breeze (read: small gale) blowing so we were quite cool - and we managed to keep our newspapers from flying off by firmly weighting them down with whatever was to hand.
It was a typical Broadwater day with lots of watercraft and activity happening in front of us. And then, to cap it off, a seaplane landed and drew up to shore in front of us. You need to have long legs if you're boarding one of those things without a wharf as it is quite a step up from the pontoony-type-thing (d'oh ... proper name for which is a "pontoon") into the fuselage - and who knew that the difference between a seaplane and a flying boat (of which the Catalina was an excellent example) is that the flying boat does not have pontoons and its fuselage sits in the water. (Where would we be without the interweb?) While the seaplane is a fabulous way to miss the Holiday traffic, I hoped the passengers didn't suffer from any kind of seasickness because that little plane was tossed around a little on the choppy water on its way out to the channel ... and along the channel as it gathered speed to take-off.
We managed what I believe is a new record for staying up in New Year's Eve. I mentioned to Sooz as I was making my way to bed that we had missed the Kiddy fireworks - and when she told me they weren't on for another half hour ... I knew I couldn't stay awake for them ... and to think I had even had a nana nap this afternoon! I'll try to do better next year but fear that may entail going out somewhere! Do quiet coffee shops do NYE functions - offer ample parking - and ... no?
We didn't miss the fireworks completely though - as we lay in the darkness, waiting for sleep to overtake, somewhere.in thendidn't we could hear the sound of fireworks.
Happy New Year!
