Well, it's Friday evening - and that means the holiday is almost over - which is a great shame because we have been enjoying it very much. It has been wonderful - doing what we wanted when we wanted - going out and doing things, staying in (to do the washing) ... eating what and when we wanted rather than choices being made because we needed to be something somewhere some time. It is very liberating and very relaxing. That isn't to say that we haven't been seeing folk and doing things ... we have managed to have lunch with M at Mei Wei at The Star, and at the same time managed to run in to Da and Te, and then Az. And, at my behest, Sooz and I made it to Ferry Road Markets on Wednesday for lunch ... since I'm usually at work when that meet happens ... yes, FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) is alive and well.
I also managed to get something off my to-do list, which I was very happy about ... a visit to a business down this way to get a new piece of equipment. I managed to get that knocked off yesterday - after breakfast at The Paddock Bakery but before going off to the David Fleay Wildlife Park. Unfortunately I fitted something else in ... losing my bluetooth headset - which I am still looking for but which I fear may be gone for good. I'm probably going to go back to my wired headphones until I finally admit that "the cockroach", as Sooz and I had affectionately named it, is gone. Until then, I will focus on finding it in whatever nook or cranny it may be hiding.
M went to Brisbane after she'd joined us at The Paddock Bakery yesterday morning, and on her way back in the evening, she chanced to see the moon - and called us to let us know. We were glad she did because there was every chance we would have missed it totally ... we had missed it rising over the horizon, but we did see it emerging, big and yellow, from behind the cloud cover. Marvellous. We had hoped we would get to see it ... and we were especially pleased we saw it last night, because the cloud cover is so heavy tonight that we would have had no chance.
We made it back to The Paddock Bakery for their Dippy Eggs again this morning ... it really is a wonderful place to take time out from the hustle and bustle (of holidays?) ... watch the birds, and enjoy some great food. We didn't linger though because our next stop was Australia Fair ... one of Sooz's favourite stores is having a sale and she wanted to see if the jacket she had been wanted was reduced ... and it was! I called in to Telstra (as one does) and had a look at the new Samsung S8 ... and it looks like a nice phone except it isn't a Note. Word is though that the old Note 7 - one of the models recalled because of the exploding battery issues .... is to be reintroduced as the Note 7R ... and this is slated to happen sooner rather than later ... but whether it will make it to Australia ... and whether it will be here before the Note 8 are unknowns at this point.
On the way back from Australia Fair, Sooz noted a helicopter hovering above a building in Main Beach (mmm Hot Shott) and it turned out that it was there for an airlift ... we are not sure what it was (no, it wasn't an elephant although why I would have ever considered that is beyond me!) except that it was large and by the way the helicopter listed at one point ... heavy! Maybe some kind of garden ... thingy. We didn't get to see it make it to ground so we'll have to wait to see if there's something in the paper tomorrow.
While the David Fleay Wildlife Park isn't nearly as smick as the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, it wasn't a bad visit. I was only there a couple of hours but I managed to visit the Nocturnal House (yes, platypus!), the pelicans (Lefty and Righty ... both of whom have lost wings as a result of being trapped in fishing line/refuse ... the same incident), the sleeping crocodiles, the dingos, the brolgas, and the inflight shown in the amphitheatre. There were some good photo opportunities - for which I was grateful.
