I'm not saying it was quiet at Volunteering this morning, but at one stage I did find myself looking for duplicate entries in the database! I quickly realised no-one would appreciate that - especially since my first search "Donald" revealed two duplicate records on the very first screen ... that's right ... the first screen .. not even the first page! I couldn't help myself then ... I had to look through the first page of results ... and yes, my suspicions were confirmed ... in the first 50 results, there were at least 4 duplicates. Yep, no-one is going to appreciate me pointing that out. So I turned my attention to other things as I waited for the next phone call to come in: accommodation booked for the weekend (check); diary updated (check); Nigely's blog entry done (check); chit-chat with other volunteers (check); morning tea (check); bathroom break (check); car moved (check). Hmmm. It was much busier yesterday. So busy in fact that there was no time to do studying for Trivia.
Yes ... Trivia. We have been to two Trivia games this week - Sunday afternoon at the Nerang RSL Club, and last night at the Runaway Bay Junior Leagues Club. Both were good - better we thought that the Southport RSL game ... but we won't know for sure which one we are going to keep going to (if either) until we have tried them both out a couple more times. And last night ... drumroll please ... I finally gave up my duties as scribe ... passing the pen over to Pen (heh heh) - our new player. It was interesting not to be scribing - and I was happy for the change. Not that I wasn't writing anything down .. I was keeping track of the questions so we could go back to revisit any that we were missing - because the game play did move along at a lively and compelling pace.
I am still wading my way through Stephen King's The Stand: Complete and Uncut. I have seriously been reading it for days now and find that I am having to put a timer on so I can limit my reading as I try to push through to the end. With just 200 pages to go now, I am currently 85% through ... so if it was going to take me 22 hours to read the book (I can't find the time stats in the app at the moment), that means I only have another 3.5 hours to go. (Update: have now found - thanks interweb - the toggle for the time stats: 3hr5min to go!)
The rains have come again so I'm glad I managed to get all three sections of the lawn mowed on Sunday afternoon. I managed to get all three done on the one battery charge ... and I haven't charged them up again yet so I can use them next time and see exactly how much yard the mower will do. The lawn trimming will now have to wait until the grass dries out a bit - which is unlikely today as it is still raining.
And speaking of Volunteering, I wish they hadn't mentioned anything about the smell that appears to be permeating the building today. It may or may not be: a dead rat somewhere in the building or the garbage bins under the air conditioner. From time to time, if the wind is right, I can whiff it ... and I would prefer if I couldn't ... and I know that I wouldn't at all had I not tuned in to the conversations. Anosmia? Me?
