Sunday

No quinoa or cous cous. Not a problem, That was the brief interchange between Michelle (my dentist) and I after she had removed one of my back teeth - we had talked about a root canal for it but because it was already wearing a crown, it was going to be a little bit complicated. Anyway, as it turned out, and I wasn't expecting this, Michelle told me that I had made the right decision ... the tooth had a split in it (which could explain why it took a bit of effort to extract) and if I'd had the root canal it may not have lasted that long. Phew! So new quinoa or cous cous for me for the next couple of days (ha ha, as if!).

We were lucky enough to get a delivery of Mouse's Anzac Biscuits for .... Anzac Day. They were lovely ... slightly different as she had made them with Treacle rather than Golden Syrup. It gave them a deep, richer flavour. Yum, yum and yum again. But not as yum as the Borscht on Sunday! How does Mouse do it - 95 and still cooking strong!

It was the Pink Moon this week and Sooz and I met M down at the Broadwater on Tuesday night ... and it would have been fabulous except there was considerable cloud cover ... and it was a tad chilly. I managed to get a few shots before we headed back to Jannie for another episode of "Call My Agent" and some Tasty Noodles Laksa and Singapore Noodles. Hopefully the weather will be better for next month's full moon - will it still be Pink?

I'm not sure what they're doing with the lake at the Botanic Gardens but most of it is covered in some kind of algal bloom. I was there on Sunday afternoon and sent a photo to Sooz ... she didn't realise until I pointed it out later that the green in the shot was actually the lake, not grass.

While we were having breakfast at Cafe4U on Friday, I commented how few flies there were ... and just about then, one dove into Sooz's nearly-full coffee cup. Hmmm. She fished it out, and while she was deciding whether or not to continue drinking her coffee (really, she had only had a few sips from it) we moved the fly from the teaspoon, to the saucer, to a napkin ... and then watched for the next few minutes as it cleaned itself. It was amazing to watch ... the way it used its legs to clean off its wings and body ... until it was okay to fly away. There ... another life saved. Hopefully it will be able to stay out of other people's coffees and food and have as long a life as it can. (I had thought this was as little as one day but apparently that's only the Mayfly; common house flies can live up to a month!)

It has rained a bit over the last few days so I haven't been out to tend to the lawn. Just as well we don't do that much gardening here because it really isn't warm enough to observe/take part in "Naked Gardening Day" (1 May). And the neighbours have a big enough hole in their front yard already ... they have sprung a leak somewhere and are having to turn their water off at the mains between uses otherwise they turn their neighbour's front yard into a swimming pool. They have had the specialist leak plumber in and he painted around a section of the lawn, and the plumber dug there and found ... nothing. Ka and St have decided that rather than dig up their front yard looking for the pipes - and who could believe they would have been put in deeper than 3 feet - which is the depth of their current hole - they will replace the pipes from the meter to the house - new PVC ones buried the required distance down - and just leave the others there, undisturbed. It is going to be a big job as they're going to have to take up the concrete and pavers at the side of their house. Hmmmmm. Very pleased (touch wood) that the plumbing issue isn't ours this time - it's only three or so years since a section of our back deck needed to be taken up for our pipes.
