Tuesday

Broadwater, early morning.

1973 was an impressive year for movies.  There were a few of them - and we know that from Trivia last night_ the picture round was Movies of 1973: they gave us ten pictures and the initials of ten movies. We managed to get seven correct and we could have had a more points had I not been fixated on the difference between The Sting and The
Entertainer.  It was a furphy ... a distraction ... because Sooz and I had heard "The Entertainer" on 94.1 the day before - and we'd discussed who was in the movie ... and somehow in there I muddled myself up thinking about Ryan and Tatum O'Neal - which was neither The Sting nor The Entertainer but was in fact - as we found out from the 10 movies - Paper Moon.  At some point I will go back and watch both The Entertainer and The Sting ... but this evening I am watching Soylent Green - exactly what you want to be watching after the MasterChef Grand Final.

Pene was right about who was going to win. It was a great , you could even say "grand" final - made more suspenseful by the number of ads Channel 10 threw in to the programming. During the ads I was busy looking up the interweb and reading a book of 1,000 facts which seemed to be true - the ones I checked anyway. Some I'm not so sure about - but they were just crazy enough to be true.

But back to Soylent Green - which, at the time, was set nearly 50 years in the future ... which would make it 2022.  That's next year! It was meant as a cautionary tale about caring for the environment ... and a warning not to touch the Soylet Green, especially the vegetarians among us.

The last game in this year's State of Origin will be played tomorrow night _ a dead rubber I think they called it since there's only one game left and NSW won the first two.  The exciting bit is that it will be held on the Gold Coast so we look to be getting a ton of Rugby League players here. I'm not sure how many they are planning to let into the stadium for the game, but I am sure that we won't be there.

We're planning to be at our usual Wednesday night Trivia, which, surprisingly, hasn't been on for the last couple of weeks while we've been in our mini-lockdown state.
And speaking of treats, I gave an old favourite a go today ... Golden Syrup on fresh bread with butter ... yum.  When Sooz told me she had had some the other day I realised I would like to try it ... I think it's decades since the last time ... and I was pleased I did.  The taste was absolutely familiar - and now I want some toast and treacle!  I'll have to put treacle on the shopping list first though.
